Working at Valley Geotechnical
Recently hired, Andrew is one of Valley Geo’s Junior Geotechnical Engineers. Andrew spends most of his days at work conducting site inspections, specialty field testing, and soils laboratory testing. He writes geotechnical reports and designs geotechnical features like retaining walls and storm water management features.
When asked what he thinks about working at Valley Geo;
“Valley Geo is a small community that handles a diverse range of engineering projects”.
Education & Experience
Andrew obtained his degree in Materials Engineering. He has worked in this field for about three years, mainly as a concrete quality control specialist with Metro Testing and as a geotechnical field technician with Allnorth, before joining the Valley Geo team.
Since working at Valley Geo, some of the projects Andrew is proud of are shoring projects, storm water management designs, and retaining wall designs. He is most proud of completing more challenging projects that require creative solutions. In past jobs and positions, Andrew was quality control/data collection. He still does that here, but he also get to design solutions.
The advice that he would give to those getting into a job field;
“Anyone who is interested in the geotechnical field should be an open minded, critical thinker because each project has its own issues and nuance”.
Outside of Work
When Andrew is not at work he loves sailing, rock climbing, and skiing.
