Working at Valley Geotechnical

Landon Justinen is Valley Geo’s Technologist and Radiation Safety Officer. Landon spends most of his days at work conducting investigations, writing reports, inspecting various works onsite including shoring, storm water management, foundation bearings, retaining walls, and subgrade reviews. He also manages our Radiation Safety Program, which includes training and certification of authorized gauge users, and oversight and maintenance of our nuclear densometer inventory.

When asked what he thinks about working at Valley Geo;

“Valley Geo is comprised of an amazing group of individuals. The  combined knowledge and experience of the engineers and staff are exponentially magnified by the close personal relationships that have been fostered over the many years of the company’s existence.”

Education & Experience

Landon studied Archaeology in the sciences, specializing in human evolution at UBCO and Mount Royal College. He later became a CCIL certified technician in the Lab and Field for Soils, Concrete, and Asphalt, and then did his Radiation Safety and Densometer Certification.

Over the last 15 years, Landon has been involved in hundreds of residential, commercial and provincial projects, including bridges, highways, high rises, and residential works, while developing and maintaining professional relationships with contractors, suppliers, government agents and engineers. He started in materials testing for Metro Testing in 2008. Landon left there as a Project Manager in 2014 to start up another testing lab with EXL in Kelowna as a Lab Supervisor until 2021. Then he made his move to Valley Geo and Geotechnical Engineering.

“After working alongside Valley Geo for a mutual client in Kelowna, we developed a friendly and professional rapport. The prospect of working in Geotechnical Engineering seemed like a natural “next step” in my knowledge and career, especially with such a great group of people and partners.”

The advice that he would give to those getting into a job field;

“Ask questions. This field of work is quite dynamic, and no amount of education or certifications can replace what is gained from experience.”
