Working at Valley Geotechnical

Mark Loewen has been working at Valley Geotechnical since December 2013. As a Design Technologist at Valley Geo, he creates drafts and designs using AutoCAD. He has designed various types of systems such as retaining walls, septic, and stormwater management systems. Mark has also enjoyed an array of other duties including visiting sites in order to gather data for designs, site inspections, and soil testing. Currently his primary focus is on-site sewage disposal and wastewater management.

When asked what he thinks about working at Valley Geotechnical;

“Valley Geo is a professional environment with engineers that are methodical, procedural, and work hard to satisfy the needs of the clients. Working at Valley Geo has been and continues to be, a great learning experience”.

Education & Experience

Starting his education, Mark first studied architectural drafting at the University of the Fraser Valley, where he received a technician certificate that included practical training in surveying.  Later, Mark received a diploma in Architectural and Building Engineering Technology from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.  During his education at BCIT he also took courses including electrical, HVAC and plumbing design, construction estimating, project management, and engineering and construction economics. Mark’s previous experience comes from several different architectural and structural engineering firms.

The advice that he would give to those going into Drafting;

 “School equips you to enter into the field but experience and continued learning guides you through”.

Outside of Work

When Mark is not at work he likes to do martial arts, skiing, and exercising. In March 2018, Mark volunteered in Angola. He wants to continue volunteering abroad and use his knowledge in engineering to help those in need.
