Employee Highlight

Rob Hughes

Working at Valley Geotechnical

Rob Hughes was one of Narayan’s initial clients when Valley Geotechnical started and has continued to promote Valley Geo even when he was not an employee. Rob began working at Valley Geo in October of 2017 in Business Development. His years of experience, knowledge and networking throughout the industry are of great benefit to Valley Geo in seeking out new clients and maintaining client relations. He understands the importance of client relations and how they are the foundations of any company.

When asked about working at Valley Geotechnical;

“It is a new experience for me to work with young and vibrant free thinkers, who come up with ideas that I never would have thought of. The people here have really developed themselves and it is exciting to work with them”.

Education & Experience

In 1995, Rob began working for Coast Masonry Supplies in promoting and manufacturing of Allan Block retaining wall systems. The business began to take off with Big Box stores, residential, multi-family, institutional, municipal and government contracts.  Rob later moved into the Sales Manager’s position for BC and Washington state. He has also worked with other companies such as Blue Pine Industries, Baselite Concrete Products and RPH Services, before finding a job with Valley Geotechnical.

The advice that Rob would give to those getting into a business;

“Relationships are the most important. You want to be the go to guy for clients and that requires trust in any relationship. Trust should be a main focus when creating and building a business”.

Outside of Work

Rob is an avid outdoorsman. He loves to go camping/fishing/ATV riding off the grid with his wife and dog Kruz.  Rob not only plays guitar with his high school buddies, he also makes them. He recently made a double-neck slide guitar out of recycled Bourbon boxes.
